What is ‘Bless Greystones’?
Bless Greystones is all about love in action. We at St Gabriel’s church want to serve our community in practical ways, motivated by the love we’ve received from Jesus.
Why are we doing it?
We believe that God loves every single person living and working in our community, and He wants that love to be shown in both word and action.
As followers of Jesus, we want to model our lives on Him. Jesus served those around him feeding the hungry, healing the sick, loving the outcasts, comforting the broken-hearted, teaching the lost and even washing the dusty feet of his friends. We too want to meet the needs of our community as much as we can, so that through these acts of service people might experience something of Jesus’ love for them.
What does it involve?
A mixture of events and projects.
Events
We already run an annual Holiday Club week in the summer for primary school aged children, and last year we started running an Advent Drop-in event with crafts and refreshments. We’d like to run more events as resources and government restrictions allow. The safety of those coming into the church building is a top priority, so all future events will be COVID secure and run in accordance with a comprehensive risk assessment.
Projects
Watch this space!
Over the coming months we will be sending out representatives from our church to go into key places within our community, to find out what the needs are. We will then pray over the responses and generate ideas of what our church can do to provide practical help to people in need of support. These representatives will consult with:
Local businesses
GP Surgeries
The Primary School
Bingham Park Community Group
We will also be asking our church family to be receptive to the needs of their neighbours, so that we can respond to practical needs of individuals as well as businesses, groups and organisations.
If you know someone who needs practical help please get in touch
Please email your requests to Catherine: catherine@acstevenson.net
We’re happy to help with DIY, gardening projects, grocery shopping, deliveries and a variety of manual work but each potential project will require a careful risk assessment to ensure the safety of our volunteers and those we seek to serve.
How can I get involved in serving on the Bless Greystones team?
There are lots of ways to get involved. The Action Team (who will do the practical tasks / projects) could be involved in anything from making deliveries to painting window frames and mowing lawns. You could commit to praying for the team as they go out to do project work. You can help with running the events we put on, or you could give financially towards our project costs. Whilst some projects may require a level of funding (such as PPE for team members) many may simply require some time and effort.
If you’d like to be involved in any way, please email Catherine at the above address - she’d love to hear from you!
