Welcome to our Service - 7 May
A Special Commemorative Service
This service sheet can be used individually or with households.
We would encourage you to say (or even sing) hymns and songs out loud.
Prayers, other liturgy or readings can be said out loud or silently, corporately or individually.
ONLINE SERVICE:
today we are also remembering that this is the start of Christian Aid Week.
We start our service by saying:
W have come together in the name of Christ
to offer our praise and thanksgiving,
to seek forgiveness of our sins,
to hear and receive God’s holy word,
and to pray for the needs of the world.
We also gather this day to pray for our King,
that, both now and always,
God may grant him wisdom and grace
for his ministry among us.
By the power of the Holy Spirit,
may we, with Charles our King,
give ourselves to the service of God and others,
that our communities may flourish
and be places of trust and friendship.
SONG: https://youtu.be/tYEKAEYRcIA
Praise, my soul, the King of heaven; to his feet thy tribute bring. Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, who like me his praise should sing? Praise him! Praise him! Praise the everlasting King.
Praise him for his grace and favour to our fathers in distress;
praise him still the same for ever, slow to chide, and swift to bless. Praise him! Praise him! glorious in his faithfulness.
Father-like, he tends and spares us; well our feeble frame he knows;
in his hands he gently bears us, rescues us from all our foes. Praise him! Praise him! widely as his mercy flows.
Angels, help us to adore him;
ye behold him face to face;
sun and moon, bow down before him; dwellers all in time and space.
Praise him! Praise him!
Praise with us the God of grace.
CONFESSION
God shows his love for us
in that, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Let us then show our love for him
by confessing our sins in penitence and faith.
Most merciful God,
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
we confess that we have sinned
in thought, word and deed.
We have not loved you with our whole heart.
We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves.
In your mercy
forgive what we have been,
help us to amend what we are,
and direct what we shall be;
that we may do justly,
love mercy,
and walk humbly with you, our God.
Amen.
ABSOLUTION
May the Father of all mercies
cleanse us from our sins, and restore us in his image
to the praise and glory of his name, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
COLLECT
Almighty God, the fountain of all goodness, bless our Sovereign Lord, King Charles, and all who are in authority under him; that they may order all things in wisdom and equity, righteousness and peace, to the honour of your name, and the good of your Church and people; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
O God, who providest for thy people by thy power, and rulest over them in love: Grant unto thy servant CHARLES, our King, the Spirit of wisdom and government, that being devoted unto thee with his whole heart, he may so wisely govern, that in his time thy Church may be in safety, and Christian devotion may continue in peace; that so persevering in good works unto the end, he may by thy mercy come to thine everlasting kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

SONG: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d5HbddjrTU
I believe in Jesus;
I believe He is the Son of God.
I believe He died and rose again;
I believe He paid for us all.
(Men) And I believe You're here now.
(Women) I believe that You're here
(All) Standing in our midst.
(Men) Here with the power to heal now,
(Women) With the power to heal,
(All) And the grace to forgive.
2. I believe in You, Lord;
I believe You are the Son of God.
I believe You died and rose again;
I believe You paid for us all.
(Men) And I believe You're here now.
(Women) I believe that You're here
(All) Standing in our midst.
(Men) Here with the power to heal now,
(Women) With the power to heal,
(All) And the grace to forgive.

READINGS
Psalm 20 is said or sung.
May the Lord hear you in the day of trouble,
the name of the God of Jacob defend you;
Send you help from his sanctuary
and strengthen you out of Zion;
Remember all your offerings
and accept your burnt sacrifice;
Grant you your heart’s desire
and fulfil all your mind.
May we rejoice in your salvation
and triumph in the name of our God;
may the Lord perform all your petitions.
Now I know that the Lord will save his anointed;
he will answer him from his holy heaven,
with the mighty strength of his right hand.
Some put their trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we will call only on the name of the Lord our God.
They are brought down and fallen,
but we are risen and stand upright.
O Lord, save the king
and answer us when we call upon you.
All Glory to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and shall be for ever. Amen.
Ephesians 3.14-21:
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name. I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, for ever and ever. Amen.
This is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Please note, there is no sermon this morning. You are invited to spend some time reflecting on the readings, particularly in light of the King’s coronation.
THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth
I believe in Jesus Christ,
his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand
of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen
O LORD, HEAR MY PRAYER,
O Lord, hear my prayer:
When I call answer me.
O Lord, hear my prayer,
O Lord, hear my prayer:
Come and listen to me.

PRAYERS - written by Jane Duckitt
This morning we’ll be praying about liminal spaces, places of transition, thresholds of uncertainty where we experience change. Thank you, Father, that you work through these times to shape us as people and communities.
As King Charles takes up the sceptre of kingship, we pray that he, like Moses, will know that you, God, are the true King- the source of all goodness and authority. We pray that King Charles will grow in the knowledge and love of your son, Jesus who came as servant King. Give him wisdom to carry out his duties with humility and integrity. Anoint him with your Holy Spirit we pray.
Spend some time praying for this transition period for the Royal family and our nation.
Father, we know everything changes, that there are seasons for everything under the sun. Some change is good, some bad.
We pray for up-coming changes post elections. We think about our local elections. Please help those elected to work for “good change.” We pray that councillors will work together for the common good and not to seek power for power’s sake.
We pray for Turkey where election results will have a major impact on the security and wellbeing of its people. Especially we bring before you its LGBT+ community in the light of President Erdogan’s campaigning rhetoric against them. We pray for the nation’s economy as inflation hits 44%. Protect those who are weak and vulnerable from the tyranny of oppressive leaders. Spend a moment praying for the political upheaval and regime change God brings to your mind across the world.
We turn now to pray for ourselves. Father, help us to know when to let go of what we have known. Help us to be open to keeping in step with your Holy Spirit. Help us to know how and when to let go of the worlds we have created and the assumptions we hold that are not of you.
Thank you for the way you invite us gently to rethink what we cling to, our mistaken beliefs, the false idols we worship. Help us always to be attentive listeners to your voice and to the voice of those we share fellowship with. Thank you for Mary, the first to tell others about the transition you had made. The first to share the good news of your resurrection. We pray for our church as we explore new frontiers. Thank you that you have promised to be with us always. Help us to cast off our fear and to joyfully go with you when you call us into the unknown.
Take a moment to pray for yourself and any you know who are living in fear of the future for whatever reason whether through the loss of a loved one, through illness or through spiritual challenges.
Special Prayers For Coronation Sunday
Let us pray.
Almighty God, you reign over all things in wisdom, power, and love.
Hear our prayers which we offer in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
An intercessor prays
For Charles our King, that you may pour upon him abundant gifts
to help him fulfil the promises made at his coronation:
Lord, in your mercy
All hear our prayer.
That he will have the grace, wisdom, and strength
to live a life of service to you and to his people:
Lord, in your mercy
All hear our prayer.
For Camilla the Queen Consort, William Prince of Wales,
the Princess of Wales, and all the Royal Family;
that they may love and support the King
as he bears the burden of his office:
Lord, in your mercy
All hear our prayer.
For the building up of the Church
under its Supreme Governor,
for the building up of all Christian people,
and for mutual understanding and fellowship
between all people of faith:
Lord, in your mercy
All hear our prayer.
For this United Kingdom,
for His Majesty’s other Realms and Territories,
for the whole Commonwealth of Nations,
for their governments and ministers,
and for all who are called to public service,
that they will seek justice, mercy, and peace:
Lord, in your mercy
All hear our prayer.
For the peace of the world,
for the welfare of all people,
for those who care for others and for the environment,
and for all in need:
Lord, in your mercy
All hear our prayer.
Loving God,
you have taught us that the power of the heart
is greater than the power of wealth and might.
Hear us as we pray for the fulfilment of your reign.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our King;
to him be glory and power for ever.
All Amen.
Almighty God, the fountain of all goodness,
bless our Sovereign Lord, King Charles,
and all who are in authority under him;
that they may order all things
in wisdom and equity, righteousness and peace,
to the honour of your name,
and the good of your Church and people;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
All Amen.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
God grant to the living grace,
to the departed rest,
to the Church, the King, the Commonwealth and all people,
unity, peace and concord,
and to us and all God’s servants,
life everlasting;
and the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always.
All Amen.
The NATIONAL ANTHEM is sung:
God save our gracious King,
Long live our noble King,
God save the King.
Send him victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us:
God save the King.
Thy choicest gifts in store
On him be pleased to pour,
Long may he reign.
May he defend our laws,
And ever give us cause,
To sing with heart and voice,
God save the King.
OFFERTORY - Take a moment to consider how you are going to continue to give to the life of the church and support other aid agencies and mission organisations.
SAY:
Yours, Lord, is the greatness, the power,
the glory, the splendour, and the majesty;
for everything in heaven and on earth is yours.
All things come from you,
and of your own do we give you.
SING: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTZnuPTGWS8
O Lord our God, how majestic is Your name,
The earth is filled with Your glory.
O Lord our God, You are robed in majesty,
You've set Your glory above the heavens.
We will magnify, we will magnify
The Lord enthroned in Zion;
We will magnify, we will magnify
The Lord enthroned in Zion.
2. O Lord our God, You have established a throne,
You reign in righteousness and splendour.
O Lord our God, the skies are ringing with Your praise,
Soon those on earth will come to worship.
We will magnify....
3. O Lord our God, the world was made at Your command,
In You all things now hold together.
Now to Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb,
Be praise and glory and power for ever.
We will magnify....
